It is believed that a fire broke out underground which led to the fatalities. In a statement released by the Department of Mineral Resources, an investigation into the cause of the incident at PMC is underway.

The MTE team send its heartfelt condolences to friends and family of the deceased mine employees. Out of respect and in light of unforeseen circumstances, MTE has postponed the Phalaborwa show – which was scheduled for 24 July 2018 – to allow the investigation process at PMC to take place accordingly.

The Phalaborwa show will be held at a later date and MTE will communicate all details in due course.
