Two miners trapped at Sibanye’s Kloof mine

A fall of ground incident has left two mine employees trapped underground Sibanye-Stillwater’s Kloof mine on Johannesburg’s West Rand.

‘Sibanye-Stillwater regretfully confirms that, following a fall of ground at its Kloof mine,’ reads a statement from Sibanye. The incident is believed to have taken place in the early hours of Wednesday morning at around 01:30 am.

The statement also states that the fall of ground incident could possibly be related to a nearby seismic event. Rescue personnel were immediately deployed, and efforts are underway to locate and free the two employees.

James Wellsted, Sibanye’s head of investor relations says that at this stage the names of the trapped employees cannot be released. He doeshowever stress that rescue personnelare doing all they can to get to the two employees as soon as possible.
