Geita Gold Mine

|Per stand - Excl. VAT|
AngloGold Ashanti has one wholly-owned and managed operation in Tanzania – Geita which is the largest single gold mining operation within the group. Geita is located in north western Tanzania, in the Lake Victoria goldfields of the Mwanza region, about 120km from Mwanza and 4km west of the town of Geita.
The Geita gold deposit is mined as a multiple open pit operation with underground potential and is currently serviced by a 5Mt per annum carbon-in-leach (CIL) processing plant. While Geita generates its own power, the operation of its power generating facility is outsourced and fuel is delivered by road.
The Geita mine re-commenced production in 2000, initially as a joint venture of AngloGold and Ashanti. With the merger of the two companies in 2004, the mine became fully owned by AngloGold Ashanti. The mine began experiencing production difficulties from 2007 onwards, starting with the failure of the high wall in the Nyankanga open pit, continued with some significant breakdowns of major mining equipment and in the process plant. Geita continued to underperform in 2009 producing 272 000oz of gold for the year, 43 000 short of the anticipated 315 000oz.
Since then, gold mining in Tanzania has picked up and MTE is looking forward to engaging with the industry to find way of helping the industry reach new heights.
Exhibitors should include any company that supplies equipment or products to the gold mines, or that supplies equipment or products that can be used in the gold mining process. Geita is Tanzania’s golden heart so, if you’re involved in that business, this is the expo for you.
