Exploration - Southern Africa - DMS will increase production

An independent test by SGS South Africa has confirmed that a dense media separation (DMS) section in Cradle Arc’s processing plant will increase production at its Mowana copper mine in Botswana significantly. According to Kevin van Wouw, CEO of Cradle Arc, a DMS will increase production to 22 000 tonnes per annum of copper in concentrate and increase throughput to about 2.6 million tonnes per annum. The reduced cash costs will lead to an increased NPV of about USD245-million (from the current base case NPV of USD87-million).

Manas Resources has entered into agreements to acquire the rights to earn up to an 85% interest in the Gonsan Project and up to 80% of the Bouake Nord Project in Côte d’Ivoire. Gonsan comprises three exploration permits covering 1 000km². The land is 700km west-northwest of the capital, Abidjan, and near the border with Liberia, and it surrounds Endeavour Mining’s 2.9 million ounces Ity gold operation.

Exploration - West Africa - Artisanals show the way

Multiple gold workings have been discovered at Altus Strategies’ Zolowo Project in Liberia. Altus recently completed the first-phase exploration programme at the 466km² Zolowo in Lofa County, north-western Liberia. Initial reconnaissance has identified over 50 alluvial gold mining sites. At each working, up to 25 artisanal miners were found to be selectively mining gold-bearing gravels, often at the boundary between saprolite and bedrock.
